The Engineering Education Scheme (with JCB)

In October ‘92 I was selected by my headmaster at Hawarden High School to represent the school as part of a 5-person team in the Engineering Education Scheme in Wales (funded by the Royal Academy of Engineering). The school had two teams participating in the scheme. My team worked alongside JCB Transmissions for 9 months on the redesign of a double action gear lever turret used in one of their back-acting machines. Our final design saved the company £34,000 per annum and the design won the Welsh contest.

Following our success we were all invited to join the Royal Academy’s Undergraduate programme - this I accepted. I am now part of their Continued Professional Development Programme.
